Principal’s Message
Yaama everyone,
It’s Week 7 and it feels that we are madly making a dash to the end of term (with a sneaky Easter long weekend thrown in).
This week I began my Principal Rounds (PR). PR is an opportunity for me to get into classrooms and observe a particular area of focus. This semester, I am focusing on the teaching of ‘new content’ as well as looking at how teachers ignite prior learning and deep knowledge. It has been a real privilege observing wonderful phonics lessons, impactful GEM lessons and seeing some higher-order thinking in mathematics. I use my PR to report back to all staff at a later date and use the findings with school Executive to look more deeply at how we can address any inconsistencies across the school.
We have our P&C meeting next Tuesday (19th March) at 5:30pm in the Staff Room. All are welcome. We are also in the final stages of finalising our school uniform to be purchased through Lowes at Lake Haven. Watch this space!
I can’t wait to see our parents, grandparents and family friends starting this Friday when Easter Hat making begins. It’s always lovely seeing so many faces fill our classrooms. And you know what? It’s even an opportunity to look at the wonderful learning that is up and about in so many classrooms.
Lastly from me is a reminder that we have our Behaviour & Wellbeing Breakfast Forum on Tuesday 26th March (7:45am for an 8:00am start). Please register via the link that was sent out on School Bytes. I would love to see at least 20 parents/carers there (we currently have 8).
Have a wonderful week!

LITERACY & NUMERACY NEWS
We have lots happening in literacy and numeracy at MPPS this week!
Assessment
PAT Testing has taken place over the last couple of weeks, with a few students still requiring catch-up tests for absences. I am really impressed with the positive attitudes and determination the students have demonstrated during testing. When I told Year 2 they were doing a maths test, they all shouted “Yessssssss!”
NAPLAN tests start this week for Year 3 and Year 5. Myself and Mrs Vine are coordinating the tests in the library in small groups throughout Week 7 and 8. Please contact the office if your student will be absent for one of the testing days.
Reading and Writing in Kindergarten!
I am absolutely blown away with how well our new Kindergarten students have settled into their learning. Some students have moved onto the second stage of decodable readers, focusing on the sounds b, h, n, o, g, v, l and w. I was so excited to see them matching pictures to their beginning sounds and practising writing their first ever sentences. How clever!

is our attendance goal!
Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. NSW public schools work in partnership with parents to encourage and support regular attendance of children and young people. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.
Education in New South Wales is compulsory for all children between the ages of six years and below the minimum school leaving age of 17 years. The Education Act 1990 requires that parents ensure their children of compulsory school age are enrolled at, and regularly attend school, or, are registered with the NSW Education and Standards Authority for home schooling.
Once enrolled, children are required to attend school each day it is open for students.
EXPLAIN YOUR CHILD’S ABSENCE/S
We are focusing on reducing the number of unexplained absences in our school.

COMMUNITY NOTICES
Getting to and from the bus stop
• Families are responsible for getting their child to and from the bus stop safely.
• Always supervise your child until they are at least 10 and hold their hand when walking to and from the bus stop or interchange and when crossing the road.
• When waiting for the bus, hold hands and wait as far back from the passing traffic as possible.
Getting off the bus
When travelling by bus, your child is most at risk in the minutes after they get off the bus.
Meet your child AT the bus stop or interchange after school. NEVER wait on the opposite side of the road and call them across. If you cannot meet your child, organise for a trusted adult to take your place.
Always wait until the bus has gone, then use a safe place to cross.
Talk with your child about what to do:
• if you are delayed and cannot meet them as usual
• if they catch the wrong bus
• if they get off the bus at the wrong bus stop.
Crossing the road
Together, choose the safest place to cross the road and talk about:
STOP! one step back from the kerb
LOOK! continuously both ways
LISTEN! for the sounds of approaching traffic
THINK! whether it is safe to cross
Keep checking as you cross the road.
BUS SAFETY
RESTORATIVE PRACTICES
Restorative practice is a whole school teaching and learning approach that encourages behaviour that is supportive and respectful. It puts the onus on individuals to be truly accountable for their behaviour and to repair any harm caused to others as a result of their actions.
A restorative approach focuses on building, maintaining and restoring positive relationships, particularly when incidents that involve interpersonal conflict or wrongdoing occur.
